Koshkonong Mounds Country Club was originally built as a resort in 1870, to host the affluent sportsmen who could afford to hunt and fish these legendary waters, which was once known to be one of the premier duck hunting destinations in the entire United States. In 1922, the initial golf course construction took place, utilizing many of the native effigy mounds as navigational hazards. After two short years, the new course opened for play in the summer of 1924.

Historical Buildings

This Hexagonal Stagecoach Inn was built in 1844. It is the oldest poured grout (concrete) home in the U.S. Its Log Cabin was built in 1837 and it contained an underground tunnel to the Milton House. In 1998 it was designated as a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service for its role in the Underground Railroad.

When Milton College closed in 1982 the buildings were sold piecemeal to individuals.
Apartments and offices dominate the majority of the newer (after 1960) buildings or what was known as the "new campus".  The library was purchased by the city and serves as a public library. The original campus where all the buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places has been restored.  The highlights being the 1855 Main Hall, owned by the Milton College Preservation Society which serves as a museum and archives of Milton College and it's 138 year history, and Goodrich Hall the 1957 co-ed dormitory which is packed with antiques and collectibles.  Whitford Hall which was the science building is currently for sale after 20 years as an antique mall.
